Stay Cool During a Staycation
If you’re staying around Hampton Roads to enjoy your 4th of July weekend, there is no reason to be bored! We already rounded up a ton of Independence Day Events and Fireworks so make sure you check that roundup out and be sure to find a place to celebrate near you.
Most of the local celebrations and firework displays are on the 4th of July, so consider these great options to stay cool while having a blast this holiday weekend.
Lemonade Stand: Set up a stand in your neighborhood to raise money to donate and enjoy giving the neighbors a refreshing break! If you need to stay cool, you can just have a cup yourself before all the ice melts.
Run through the Sprinkler: Pull the sprinkler out of the back of the shed and get set up to introduce the young kids to the best summer treat you had growing up.
Have a Water Fight: Can’t find the sprinkler? Water balloons or Super Soakers can be just as fun, and you can get your cardio in at the same time.
Spa Day: Head inside during the hottest hours of the day for a relaxing spa day. Look up easy to make facial masks, put cucumber slices on your eyes, and spend some time being silly and hiding out from the sun during the peak of the heat.
Pool Time: If you’re lucky enough to have a pool, jump on in! If not, ask a friend, buy a kiddie pool, or go to a community pool and take a refreshing dip.
Beach Day: We have some of the most beautiful beaches around, both ocean and bay. Pack a cooler and head down to enjoy the sun, water, and relaxation.
Movies: There is no shame in taking shelter from the sun! Sometimes it’s just too hot to enjoy being outside. Soak up more A/C than you want at the movies for a matinee. We heard “Finding Dory” was great!
Day at the Museum: We’re lucky enough to love in an area with no shortage of culture, art, and museums. Spend a day at the Virginia Aquarium, the Air and Space Center, or any of the great family friendly museums we have around Coastal Virginia.
