In our year-round produce section, air-conditioned world, it becomes easy to not notice the orchestrated rhythm of nature and life. Spring is one of the most beautiful seasons, and a great time for being outside. With this blog post, we hope to inspire you to savor this wonderful time of year, as beach weather will get here soon enough!
Eat Seasonally | Spring provides a wonderful, early bounty of asparagus, broccoli, artichokes, lettuces, ramps, and strawberries in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Consider eating locally by purchasing produce at our local farmers markets and grocers, and dining with local restaurants who use regional foods. Here is a local food guide to help you. You can join a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) cooperative.
Get Outside | Make plans to go camping, or spend the day outside hiking or walking at a state or local park, wildlife refuge, or recreation area. Spring breezes mean you can fly a kite, wouldn’t that be fun? Eat a meal or enjoy your morning coffee al fresco on your patio or lawn. Have a picnic. Read a book outside before it gets too hot.
Cultivate A Garden | It can be flowers or food to harvest later. Getting your hands in the dirt is therapeutic. If you are a beginner, here are some great gardening basics. In honor of Earth Day on April 22nd, research some ways that you and your family can be kinder to our environment.
Work With Your Hands | Delve deeper into one of your favorite activities or start a new hobby that you have been thinking about -- scrapbooking, writing, sewing, crochet, photography, or painting come to mind. Remember that Spring is a time of new beginnings, rebirth, growth. Take your cue from Mother Nature.
For The Birds | Build a bird feeder, bird house, or bird bath in your yard. It is fun to watch the flurry of activity in the Spring. Visit a local park, or lake and feed the ducks (just not bread). We recommend frozen peas!
And, Of Course Spring Cleaning | Refresh, organize, clean, and declutter your home and yard. Decorate in small ways to celebrate Spring. You can add some greenery or flowers to brighten up your color palette. Open your windows to freshen up the air. Try line drying your clothes for a bit. This timeless household task is done by most other cultures around the world.
