Our Favorite ‘Za in Hampton Roads

February 9th is National Pizza Day and we are ready to celebrate by listing a few of our favorite places in Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina to grab a ‘pie’! Most of these pizza restaurants are Hampton Roads originals, just like us!

Brooklyn Pizzeria | Virginia Beach
Are you a fan of New York pizza? We recommend that you try Brooklyn Pizzeria. They pass the fold test, the hang test, AND the taste test! New Yorkers will feel a rush of familiarity with their sweet sauce and pliable crust. Brooklyn Pizza also excels at the thick Sicilian crust, that has been described as eating a crisped cloud. 

Andiamo Ristorante & Pizzeria | Chesapeake

Classic Neapolitan-inspired pizza in Chesapeake with a crust to rave about - light char, lovely structure, and leopard spotting. In 2019, pizza chef Biagio Scire Jr. invited his father to come and cook the red-sauce Italian that he has been making for decades, making Andiamo a multi-generational affair.  

Windy City Pizza | Chesapeake & Virginia Beach Locations

Lovers of Chicago-style deep dish pizza should check out Windy City, our truest home for these pizzas. They use Wisconsin cheese and Italian sausage shipped in from Chicago. Especially in Winter, it is a deep comfort!

Prosperity Kitchen & Pantry | Virginia Beach

Prosperity Kitchen was opened when the Commune restaurant bakery team outgrew their space. They work from scratch in small batches, with only the best ingredients. They use organic flour and tomato sauce, and source ingredients for their toppings from local farms and artisans. Purchase by the slice. 

Flame & Pie Mobile Pizzeria | Locations Throughout The Peninsula

This is a mobile truck serving Detroit-style pizza at locations mainly in Newport News and Hampton. Check out their website for where the truck will be. The pizzas are standouts with their sweet-spicy marinara sauce, Liguria pepperoni, and mozzarella-Muenster cheeses. 

The Bakehouse at Chelsea | Norfolk

Who better to make a terrific pizza crust than bread bakers? That’s the Bakehouse at Chelsea. Stop by and take a look at their seasonal topping combinations for the perfect pizza. Vegan option available. 

Farm To Hearth Pizza | Williamsburg

Virginia’s farm-to-slice pizza inspired by the pies of Napoli and devoted to local produce, and cured meats from Charlottesville. Winter pizzas feature meatier options including house fennel sausage or nduja meat spread. The dough is cold-proofed for 24 hours then cooked at 750 degrees on white and red oak until brown and lightly scuffed with char.
