Holiday Decorations on a Budget
Â
Who doesn’t love to freshen up their holiday decorations every year? There is nothing I love more than unpacking boxes of decorations and ornaments and thinking about the lovely memories tied to them. I also fall in love every year with the lush new ideas in every magazine and blog post. A great way to compromise is to use the things you have and try some of these simple and inexpensive decorating ideas. With just a little time and a few materials that you may already have, you can make some great new additions to your décor this season.
Family Photo Garland
Take a trip down memory lane with a homemade photo garland. Drape the nostalgic garland across a mantel or shelf by clipping old snapshots to a piece of festive ribbon. Start with the great-great grandparents at one end of the garland and progress to the youngest generation.
Cranberry Tea Lights
For all of you hosting holiday parties, these tea lights nestled into cranberries couldn’t be easier or prettier to set the mood. Simply lay the fresh cranberries out in a single layer on a platter or plate, and place however many tea lights seem appropriate for the size of the tray. We also wrapped some sprigs of greenery around the plates for an added touch.
Easy Holiday Bow Wreath
This wreath is a great way to choose just the right decorating vibe for your home. Endless colors in package bows mean that you can stick to a color theme or incorporate all the holiday colors you can handle. This simple tutorial offers step- by- step pictures to guide you through the process and can be done by anyone regardless of craft skill level. The kids can also help as many of the bows can be placed by just using the peel and stick adhesive the bows already have.
Snowflake Ideas
Who doesn’t remember cutting these as kids in school? For some more grown up takes on decorating with paper snowflakes, check out this link. And don’t worry, there are instructions to refresh your memory on how to cut snowflakes. This also makes a family friendly decorating idea for the kids who love to help!
Scented Glitter Pinecones
This DIY project is so fast and easy, and the product – pretty-smelling, glittery pinecones – can be used in a lot of different ways: try filling glass bowls or vases with them and setting them around your home, hanging them from door handles, using them as decorations (or packaging filler) for gifts, or tying bits of ribbon to the ends and hanging them on your tree.
