Certain Things for Uncertain Times
Right now there sure seems to be a lot of uncertainty going on in the world. And yet, despite the things we are not sure of when we look around Hampton Roads we are certainly seeing some good things happening. If there is one thing that will help us get through uncertain times it is good things that we can be certain of.
So here are some examples of everyday Virginians living life in Hampton Roads who are doing some certainly good things.
Mobile Birthday Wishes
In Hampton, a local woman named Frances Lucido was given the ultimate birthday surprise over this past weekend. Her family knew they couldn’t celebrate in a traditional way this year due to social distancing requirements, but they had something very creative up their sleeve. 35 carloads of people slowly drove by Frances’s home and surprised her 80th birthday. Everyone was all smiles and the cars were decorated with “Happy Birthday” wishes and gifts.
Student Appreciation from Portsmouth
In a very similar way to the birthday party above, teachers and staff from John Tyler Elementary School in Portsmouth paraded in cars and threw candy to their students in an effort to let the students know they are loved, missed, and appreciated. Students waved back safely from their yards and took pictures and videos from their phones.
Life Slows Down, Service Picks Up
Another thing that is for certain is as life has slowed down and more time is spent at home, people are helping each other a lot more. Thousands of quiet acts of service are being done throughout Hampton Roads. People seem to have just a little more time to help a neighbor out in the yard or they have a couple of extra hours to help a grandma or grandpa with something that needs to be done around the house. Whatever the case may be, people are getting in the spirit of helping others and that’s something we should all strive to do when possible..
Love for First Responders and Health Care Professionals
Those serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 response are certainly getting some deserved love and appreciation from Hampton Roads businesses. Here’s a list of free or reduced cost services offered to first responders and healthcare workers. Everything from 50 cents a gallon off of gas, to free food, and free rides back and forth to work are being offered. Local 7-11 stores are even throwing in free car washes in their parking lot!
Stronger Together
The TREG Real estate professionals in our community have the pleasure of getting to meet the people of Hampton Roads everyday. We help them find homes and help them move into and out of the area. We also help them find certainty in uncertain times. It is heart warming for us to see our neighbors and friends respond with acts of care, service, and generosity in times like these. This is just one of many reasons why we love living in our community so much.
